USD 800m worth of Halal food products exported from Iran

Some USD 800 million worth of halal food products were exported abroad from the Islamic Republic of Iran during March 2007-March 2008 period, an official said.

Head of Iran's Food Industries Union, Mohammad Hosseini, said that over 150 companies are active in producing Halal food products across the country.

Hosseini also referred to the first International Halal Food Exhibition to be held in Tehran in February 2009.

"So far, over 160 companies have voiced their readiness to participate in the event of which 80 have inked their contracts," he said.

Hosseini said that some 10 countries will participate in the exhibition.

"Holding the exhibition will play a vital role in expanding the export of Halal food products to the world," Hosseini said.
