The Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein-ef. Kavazović, today met with the muftis from Bosnia and Herzegovina and members of the Riyaset. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Reis-ul-ulema Enes-ef. Ljevaković and the president of the Assembly of the Islamic Community, Edhem Bičakčić.
The muftis of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina informed the Reis-ul-ulema about the current situation in their mufti units, caused by rising tensions and the announcement of the collapse of state institutions, and even the open secession of parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The muftis noted the growing concern among imams, members, and followers of the Islamic Community, but confirmed that the situation remains calm.
The leadership of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued the following statement after the meeting:
"We call on domestic and international actors in the political life of Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure peace and stability, and not to allow anyone to be above the law or state institutions. The laws of this country, its Constitution, and the role of the High Representative as part of the Dayton Peace Agreement must be respected.
We call on the members of the Islamic Community to remain cautious and vigilant. We expect members of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina to follow the situation closely and not to succumb to provocations. All imams with their congregations, as well as all organs and institutions of the Islamic Community, will remain in intense contact and consultation in the coming period.
The Islamic Community is confident that there are enough responsible institutions and individuals in this country who will ensure peace and prosperity for all peoples and citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to continuing to contribute to the preservation of peace and stability.
The organs and institutions of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina across the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue with their planned Ramadan activities."
