Following the conclusion of the electoral process for the head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, newly elected Grand Mufti Prof. Dr. Nedzad Grabus addressed those present, stating that the election demonstrated the maturity and responsibility of the institution. He particularly emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of leadership, thanked outgoing Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic for his service, and stressed that the Islamic Community must remain dedicated to the common good and the interests of society.

Grabus opened his address by expressing his gratitude to Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic for what he described as brotherly and friendly understanding throughout the entire process.

"We all especially thank him for his dignified, courageous, and decisive leadership of the Islamic Community during his two terms," Grabus stated.

He stressed that the execution of the elections demonstrated the responsibility of the Islamic Community and its members, both within Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad.

"Today the Islamic Community won, today Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sandzak, Croatia, Slovenia, and the entire diaspora won, because they showed that as responsible people we can go through even a very demanding and difficult process of electing the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina," he said.

Reflecting on the broader significance of the vote, Grabus recalled that the Islamic Community has rarely had the opportunity to execute a peaceful transition of leadership throughout its history.

"We have not had many opportunities in life to make a peaceful administrative transition in the Islamic Community. The first time was in 2012, when our Grand Mufti, Husein Kavazovic, was elected. In this year of 2026, God willing, we will repeat that process," Grabus remarked.

Concluding his address, he delivered a message to Muslims and all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, underlining the role of the Islamic Community in broader society.

"Dear Muslim men and women in Bosnia and Herzegovina, dear citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, dear fellow citizens, rest assured that the Islamic Community will always stand for everything that is good and will stop fighters against everything that is detrimental to us or to society as a whole," Grabus declared.

Following the vote tally, it was confirmed that Prof. Dr. Nedzad Grabus secured the trust of 230 members of the electoral body. Prof. Dr. Mensur Malkic followed with 128 votes, while Dr. Salem Dedović received 28 votes.

The formal inauguration ceremony, including the presentation of the Mansur and official assumption of office, is scheduled for November 15 at the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque in Sarajevo.
