Grand Mufti Kavazović: I Will Not Succumb to Political Pressure - Evil Is Evil

In light of recent media reports and remarks made by Minister Elmedin Konaković during his appearance on a local television programme, concerning his discussion with the United States Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism, Yehuda Kaploun, regarding the content of the Eid sermon delivered by the Grand Mufti, Husein ef. Kavazović, in which he addressed the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, we sought an official statement from the Grand Mufti.
On this occasion, he stated to the MINA News Agency that he would not succumb to political pressure, irrespective of its source.
“I will, in particular, not acquiesce to unfounded allegations of antisemitism originating from well-known and ill-intentioned political and lobbying circles. I am confident that Ambassador Kaploun, as well as our partners in the United States, are fully aware of the actual circumstances and will not be misled by orchestrated provocations aimed at undermining relations between Muslims and Jews for narrow political purposes,” the Grand Mufti stated.
He further recalled that, since the onset of violence and atrocities in Israel and Gaza on 7 October 2023, he has consistently and unequivocally condemned the developments.
“In my capacity as Grand Mufti, I will continue to oppose these senseless and violent conflicts that are being justified in the name of religion, and I will persist in condemning all forms of radicalism and extremism, including those associated with militant Zionism. Evil is evil, and a crime is a crime, irrespective of the perpetrator or the victim. Such a stance does not constitute antisemitism; on the contrary, it clearly distinguishes the Jewish people and the Jewish faith from those who, through their public statements and policies, openly reveal their motives and intentions. We take pride in the fact that numerous Jewish and other religious leaders, both domestically and internationally, support this position,” Grand Mufti Kavazović concluded.
