Phoenix, AZ: June 2,2020

Islamic Community of North American Bosniaks condemns the horrific death of George Floyd. An act of excessive police violence in killing of George Floyd, is a reminder of the racial injustice in our society. We all must express our solidarity and stand with those targeted by intolerance, hatred, and violence.

As Muslims we are taught to stand for justice and fight against injustice for every member of the society equally. In the Qur’an Allah SWT said; O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor...(The Holy Qur’an 4:135).!

Islamic Community of North American Bosniaks is standing firm on a commitment to the equality and dignity of all people, regardless of their religious, national, ethnic, or other identity.  We must join our voices with all people to demand justice for George Floyd and all others who have been killed unjustly. We are also obligated to protect ourselves and others as we are still in COVID-19 pandemic, and take responsibility for public safety.

There is no peace without justice and there is no justice without peace. When we raise our voice for justice, we should do it in a peaceful manner that dignifies us as human beings. We all need to stand against injustice that threatens our values, democracy, and foundation on which this nation is built and stands for. We send our deepest condolences to the families of all of those whose lives have been taken.
