His Eminence Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović
Islamic Community in BiH, Office of the Grand Mufti
Obala Isa-bega Ishakovica 2, 71000 Sarajevo, BIH
Your Eminence,
On behalf of the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina in Washington DC (ACBH), a non-governmental, non-partisan organization that advocates on behalf of Bosnian Americans and a united, multiethnic and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina, we would like to congratulate you on your newly elected position as the Reis-ul-ulema.
Following two decades of inspirational leadership of the Reis-ul-ulema Dr. Mustafa ef., Ceric, we are pleased that Your succession is marked by finest principles of democratic governance and institutional stability. Reis-ul-ulema Ceric’s transformational leadership complemented with your Eminence’s continuity of purpose is a welcome gift for generations of Bosniaks to come.
The Bosnian American community has an indispensable role to play in the outcome of the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH). As you are aware, we work tirelessly to ensure that the United States is engaged and well informed on issues related to BIH. With strong and decisive leaders such as you, we will continue to mobilize the Bosnian American community in becoming more active in the U.S. political process – an effort that undeniably benefits BIH in the long run.
To that end, ACBH works closely with policymakers in Washington D.C. in order to improve relations between the U.S and BIH with the goal of integrating BIH into NATO and the European Union. Since 2010, ACBH has taken 35 congressional staffers to BIH in order to engage them and introduce them to the current situation in BIH. The efforts of ACBH have led to increased Congressional recognition of the importance of BIH; several members of ACBH were involved in the drafting of the Srebrenica Resolution, while the Congressional Caucus on Bosnia now boasts 30 members.
We are looking forward to working with Your Eminence on empowering institutional growth and stability of Bosniak people so that the atrocities of the 1990’s never happen again. We hope that together we will be able to continue cherishing values of tolerance achieved thru understanding and common interest, and to pursue peace but not at any cost and not at the expense of justice and institutional memory of Bosniak people. We look forward to working hard with you in support of Bosnia and Herzegovina that is democratic, a country blessed with peace, freedom and dignity for all.
Sincerely yours,
Haris Hromic, Chairman of the Board of Trustees
