A brief history of Bosniak Society in Seattle

Bosnian community of Greater Seattle is one of the youngest Bosnian communities in the US.

First Bosniaks to migrate to the Seattle area did so at the end of 1992 and beginning of 1993 during the Serbo‐Montennegrian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, although there are data showing that the first Bosniak to migrate to Washington State came to Spokane after World War II.

The new Bosnian immigrants felt the need to organize due to a necessity to preserve their religion, culture, traditions - not only for their children but for the youth and adults. There was a desire to create an institution in the greater area of Washington State that would preserve their religion, traditions and educate their children and youth about their home country as well as keep them from assimilation.

Thus, the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Washington was born - and officially established during the sacred month of Ramadan of the hijri year 1421 (December 10th, 2000).

Shortly after official establishment the executive council begun searching for a solution to purchase or rent a building due to the growing need to accommodate all religious and other activities.

An old house with a piece of land was purchased in Shoreline and remodeled to accommodate some of the basic activities. The council also begun planning to build a real mosque on the piece of land behind the old building, and with Allah's help, the corner stone for the new mosque was placed on May 26, 2007 by the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Mustafa Cerić, and the President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Haris Silajdžić.

Now, we're in the final stage of the construction beginning to work on the final stages on finishing the mosque.

We are in dire need of your financial support so we can finish this beautiful mosque.

The cost of finalizing the building of the mosque:

Inside work, electrical, carpets: $ 130,000

Paying of existing debt: $ 120,000

Total cost (Needed fund): $ 250,000
