The ceremony took place in Travnik at Elci Ibrahim-Pasha Madrasa on June 7, 2013.
Reis-ul Ulama Husein ef. Kavazović, as well as representatives of the U.S. Embassy in B&H, Madrasa directors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the personnel of the American Council for International Education attended the ceremony.
Opening of the American Room was part of the ceremony. The room will be used as Self-Access Language Learning Center where students will study the English language intensively.
Access Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. It provides the opportunity to high school students to study English. In addition to English language instruction, the program provides an American-style classroom experience using U.S. materials and emphasizing active learning. Access also fosters mutual understanding, strengthens teachers' and students' teaching and language skills, develops critical thinking capabilities, and conveys balanced and accurate information about the United States. So far, about 600 students in our country have benefited from this program. Access program in Bosnia and Herzegovina exists since 2004, and from 2006 it is being administered by American Councils for International Education, office in Sarajevo.
At the ceremony, the director of Elci Ibrahim-Pasha Madrasa, Dževdet Šošić addressed the audience and said:
“This is the most significant event for us in this school year. For the second time at our school, the Islamic Community in B&H and the U.S. Embassy to Bosnia and Hezegovina organize the Certification Ceremony for Access students. We witness the era of globalization and the English language as a medium of communication plays an important role in it. In order to follow global trends we have to provide enough space for the English language which plays a significant role in educational, cultural, political and economic spheres of society. Learning this language is vital for many people, in addition to communication, meeting new people and education, we thus expand our boundaries of knowledge and understanding.
Therefore, we highly value our cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in this and other projects, and we will continue, God willing, to cooperate in achieving common goals for the benefit of all people and all nations. To prove our dedication to this cause we opened the American Room and equipped it with modern technology according to the highest standards.”
